Wasting for perfection
It’s been 5 or so months since I took the plunge and left the corporate world in search of working my world around my passion. It’s been quite a journey so far – full of ecstatic highs, less than desirable lows, trust, determination and trips back to the parents for home cooked meals and reassurance.
I have had on my to do list – start blog for 20 weeks now! It’s taken until this very moment to have the guts to put fingers to keypad. This morning I checked in and I mean really checked in and asked myself, why the resistance? And I realised, it’s because I’m waiting for the perfect moment. For the time when my writing will be perfect, when my thoughts will be perfect, for when I’ll be perfectly worthy of people reading my stuff. Let’s be real – I could be waiting a life time.
The need for perfection is debilitating and a time waster. The expectations we put on ourselves, sure it drives us to higher levels, but at what point do we need to take a step back, give thanks for our efforts thus far and grant ourselves the space to commend ourselves? And as a result enjoy all the juiciness that comes with it.
A wise Aussie who passed on a wise quote from a wise German said ‘success is about how often you do things that make you feel uncomfortable’. Not being perceived as perfect makes me uncomfortable. So here I am, bathing in the comfortableness.
Every single one of us is destined for success should we reach for it. Every moment is perfect, acknowledge it, use it. Don’t waste time assuming it should look different.
I offer you this – what’s that one thing that you want so much but feel so uncomfortable to get it? What’s the one small thing you can do today, in this very moment that will get you that teeny tiny step closer to success? It could be anything, just have the courage to do something.
