Please help. Cause you can.

I harp on a lot about gratitude. The power of it. The need to do it. The love of it.

I was over at a friend’s place and I said to her husband, “did you see my recent Facebook post?”, to which he replied “was it about gratitude?”. Which made me laugh. I do post about gratitude a lot.

Often on my daily list of gratitudes is offering thanks for being of sound body and sound mind.

I give thanks for my body working like it does.

I can run, walk, dance.

Speak. Think. Rationalise. Daydream.

Pick things up, move, carry.

Hear. See. Taste. Feel.

It’s easy to take these things for granted. So easy.

So when your mate Matt runs a charity event for his best mate Adam with motor neuro disease you pay attention.

“Motor Neuro disease is a progressive terminal neurological disease. It affects the nerve cells (neurones) controlling the muscles that enable us to move, speak, breathe and swallow, causing them to degenerate and die.

Normal healthy fit people exactly like you get MND. It strikes indiscriminately, at anytime with no proven explanation.”

It’s fucked.

You’re given between 2-5 years to live once you’re diagnosed.

You’re literally fighting fit, or in the case of Adam you’re fighting fires, and then gradually you’re not.

It’s heartbreaking. Can affect any of us. And like with all things, there needs to be money to research a cure. And as Adam says in the video, “There’s no cure yet cause there’s no funds being put into the research”.

On the 4th of October NSW Firefighters will ascend Sydney Tower Eye in full fire fighting uniform in a race against each other and Motor Neurone Disease.

I’ve donated. I’m going to go support them on the 4th. (Ladies + certain gents, there will be many spunky firefighters there, many – sorry Matt I am intentionally sexualising your occupation).

In a world where it’s so easy to just sit back and feel like other people’s problems are not our own, it’s supporting events such as this that remind us we’re all in this together.  Help your fellow humans.

So far they’ve raised $79, 500. The aim is $100K. It’s a good cause. If it resonates, follow through.

Get all the info here.

Watch the video. It’s good.

See you all there.
